Studies are showing that students who participate in extra-curricular activities not only improve their grades, but increase their self esteem and their sense of belonging. Each of our schools offers a wide variety of extra-curricular and leadership-based activities designed to complement the curriculum, improve health and introduce you to new experiences. Don’t hesitate to get involved! Not only will you learn important skills like goal setting, teamwork, accountability and responsibility, you’ll have fun while making new friends!
Studies are also showing that student achievement improves when parents play an active role in their children’s education. Parent engagement is a key factor in the enhancement of a student’s well-being. Children whose parents support their education and school are showing higher grades, have better behaviour, and improved social skills.
Volunteers at all levels of our Board are encouraged! Whether you can give a day a week, or a day a year; an hour a day, or an hour a month, there are many ways to get involved.
School level: Opportunities are available for parents to volunteer at the school level; from helping serve lunches to assisting in homework programs, from field trip supervision to volunteering in the library, contact your child’s school to find out what the needs are. More formal committees are also available through such things as Parent Participatory Organizations (PPOs), Governing Boards, and other Committees formed on an as-needed basis.
